8th Annual Scottish Rail Conference in association with Network Rail

The 8th annual Scottish rail conference in association with Network Rail takes place as the industry enters an exciting new phase in rail delivery and development in Scotland.

With new operators selected for the ScotRail, Caledonian Sleeper and InterCity East Coast franchises, the passenger services side of rail are on the threshold of a wide range of new opportunities.

The industry also has a new face for its Scottish Government partner with the appointment of Derek Mackay MSP as Minister for Transport. The conference will hear from the Minister in the keynote address as he approaches the end of his first year in the role and reflects on his experience to date and future plans.

While change takes place in other parts of the rail industry, Network Rail’s continuing focus on partnership working in delivering both the infrastructure side of rail and developing service quality offers good prospects for the rail supply chain as projects and investment continue to be rolled out.

In this context of both change and continuity the topics for the 8th Annual Scottish Rail Conference will include new infrastructure and projects, new services, new partnerships and new customers. As a theme running through all of the day's discussions the conference will consider how the advent of ‘smart’ can underpin the development of rail in Scotland, whether in smart working, smart technology or smart services.

New opportunities in rail infrastructure and services in this context look attractive. The conference will feature key industry voices and provides the annual focal point for the Scottish rail industry in considering Network Rail project plans, Scottish Government policy and planning, delivery of the rail capital programme ahead and new approaches to service delivery and growth.
