Working together to protect 'adults at risk'

Protecting ‘adults at risk' is a key objective of central and local government. There are several acts which offer various safeguards - the 2007 Adult Support & Protection Act, the 2000 Adults with Incapacity Act, the 2003 Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act and the most recent 2007 Protection of Vulnerable Groups Act - such that it can sometimes be hard to decide which is the most appropriate or useful piece of legislation to enact in a given situation.

Practice is starting to suggest that it is important, in many cases to consider a whole range of interventions from these Acts in order to effectively support and protect some of the most vulnerable individuals in our communities.

This conference aims to look at the support offered by a breadth of legislation, to consider how organisations are working together under the various acts to protect ‘adults at risk' and, via use of actual case examples, consider how and when to use which act in particular cases.
