In conjunction with SFHA this one day conference has been organised to highlight the important role that housing has to play in improving public health. Good quality, well designed housing can make a positive impact on the nation's health. This seminar looks at the interaction between health and housing, and we are delighted that Nicola Sturgeon, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, will be the keynote speaker.

The conference will examine a range of issues, including

The key role for housing in reducing carbon emissions and eliminating fuel poverty
The importance of mixed and sustainable communities to social equity, health and well-being
The role of masterplanning, urban design and quality greenspace in encouraging play, walking and cycling
The impact that regeneration can have on health and quality of life particularly in disadvantaged communities

With the introduction of The Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 the Scottish government announced ambitious environmental targets of an 80% reduction on 1990 levels by 2050, with a 42% reduction required by 2020.

In addition to energy efficiency the conference will hear from experts on the role of regeneration in improving health, the importance of designing healthy buildings and using innovative energy efficient produced materials, and the role of placemaking in encouraging play, exercise and the use of public transport.
