The Conference
Energy efficiency and micro-generation is the cornerstone of the Scottish Executive's strategy to reduce carbon usage by 1million tonnes in Scotland by 2010.

The recent Energy Efficiency and Micro-generation consultation proposes a minimum standard for on-site renewable energy generation in all new developments in Scotland. It also proposes the most demanding national planning guidance in the UK. These radical measures will revolutionise the way buildings are designed and built in Scotland.

In addition, the 2006 European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive comes into force this summer - a mechanism that will create a real incentive and attitudinal shift towards more energy efficient choices.

If the energy efficiency and micro-generation goals are to be met, it is the public sector that is expected to lead the way in effecting change.

What practical steps can be taken now by local government, public authorities and publicly funded organisations to save energy? What can be learned from best practice across all sectors?

In addition, are current government structures and incentives sufficient to alter behaviour, grow the micro-generation industry and enable major change to happen?

This one day conference presents a unique opportunity for national government, local government, public sector managers, consumer groups, energy producers, the building industry and others to discuss the energy efficiency and microgeneration strategy, share best practice and debate the way forward.
